27日晚,美中商业协会十分荣幸地在香港宴请卡特总统儿子奇普-卡特夫妇,美中商业协会执行副主席吴高林等领导接待。
宴会上,奇普-卡特就当今中美两国的发展局势发表了独特见解。奇普作为中美建交的亲历者,还给大家讲述了四十多年前穿梭于中美之间的故事。奇普-卡特夫妇特别带来卡特总统亲自签名的新作译本。
卡特总统于1977年1月份就任总统后,同年四月份就派遣奇普来中国会晤小平。卡特总统托付他带来了中美建交的五个大问题(其中包括台湾问题)并没有马上得到小平同志的答复,而是在他返美之前给予了中文的书面回复,他当时满脸愕然,一个字也看不懂地结束了他的第一次访华。
当然,更精彩是谈到小平同志1979年的访美,美国人认为他十分有魅力,给予了摇滚明星的待遇。中美关系在这四十多年里经历风风雨雨,也有阳光明媚的日子,但是只有加强民间交流才能增进了解,促进友谊。
两位伟人的丰功伟绩,为两国万万民众多年的福祉奠定坚实的政治基础。

奇普-卡特的父亲吉米·卡特(Jimmy Carter)是美国总统时,奇普-卡特作为美国总统的联络人,周游列国, 并在 22 个国家担任官方代表。离开白宫后,奇普组建了卡特/史密斯及合伙人公司,这家公司与美国 75 个政治活动有伙伴关系。作为一名志愿者,奇普在 14 次国际选举中代表卡特中心担任选举观察员,并 担任其父母在非洲多个困难地区支持人道主义项目的私人大使。奇普还自愿与国际人类家园组织合作, 在 8 个国际项目和 8 个美国国家期间建造家园。

Chip Carter worked at Friendship Force International from 1995 to 2004. Joining the organization as First Vice President, he became President and Chief Executive Officer in 1998. The Friendship Force is a not-for-profit providing an international exchange program that organizes adult home stays with clubs in 57 countries. As a volunteer, Chip has represented The Carter Center as an election observer in 14 international elections and served as personal emissary for his parents to support humanitarian projects in multiple troubled locations in Africa. Chip has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International, building homes during eight international projects and eight states in the U.S.
