President Carter’s contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States
President Carter was the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. During his term of office, China and the United States formally established diplomatic relations. President Carter has repeatedly sent his son Chip Carter (confirmed that President Carter will attend the 40th anniversary of September 14th) and Dr. Brzezinski as a special envoy to China to discuss the establishment of diplomatic relations. At 10 o’clock on the morning of December 16, 1978, China and the United States simultaneously issued the “Sino-US Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations”, announcing that the two countries established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1979, and they were in a 40-year period.
President Carter’s promoters, witnesses and witnesses in the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States are participants, shapers and thinkers of the 40-year relationship between China and the United States!

The road to normalization of Sino-US relations has never been rugged, but Carter withstood the pressure and resistance, and together with the then Vice Premier of the State Council, Deng Xiaoping, contributed to this “changing the United States, changing China, and changing the world.” event. President Carter said: “In all the achievements I have made during my presidency, normalizing relations with China may have the greatest contribution to promoting world peace and mutual understanding.”

At the end of 2018, when Sino-US relations reached the most delicate moment, President Carter wrote an article in the Washington Post, praising China-US relations as a major event concerning world peace. In mid-January 2019, at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, Atlanta called for the urgency of maintaining Sino-US friendship.

Kissinger’s contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States
On July 9, 1971, Kissinger secretly visited China and laid a good foundation for the establishment of diplomacy between China and the United States.

On September 22, 1973, Dr. Kissinger, who made a major contribution to the improvement of Sino-US relations, became the 56th Secretary of State of the United States. President Nixon said at Kissinger’s inauguration ceremony that Kissinger was in charge of the work of this department at the turning point of US foreign policy. Kissinger was also the first Secretary of State to visit Beijing and Moscow before the appointment. This statement illustrates Kissinger’s important position and role in US foreign policy.

As the messenger of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, Kissinger, then the US Secretary of State, made tremendous efforts and contributions. At that time, after the Soviet Union took office in Brezhnev, Sino-Soviet relations were tense. The Soviet Union was even more than a million soldiers on the Sino-Soviet border. China urgently needs to improve its relations with Western countries and achieve the goal by achieving reconciliation with the United States to achieve the political means of “United States and the United States against the Soviet Union.” The United States, who sent troops to Vietnam, did not find any cheap money in Vietnam. The reason why the US military is in a quagmire is because North Vietnam has Chinese assistance. Since it is not cheap in Vietnam, the United States tends to reconcile with China in order to protect its interests in the United States after its withdrawal.

Bush’s contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States
Bush has a special fate with China, dating back to 1971. That year, Bush took office as the US ambassador to the United Nations. And voted against the People’s Republic of China to enter the United Nations, but in the same year, New China resumed its legal seat in the United Nations. Later, when recalling this incident, Bush said with emotion that this is “a turning point in the history of the United Nations.” “Accepting the People’s Republic of China to join the United Nations and establishing diplomatic contacts with Beijing is obviously far-sighted and wise.”

On October 21, 1974, the 49-year-old Bush went to Beijing with his wife and lived in the official residence of the US Liaison Office in the foreign embassy district outside the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The 14-month experience from 1974 to 1975 was considered by political commentators to be an important cornerstone of his future commitment to US-China friendship.

In 1988, he was elected as the 51st President of the 51st US. During his tenure, he made efforts to develop Sino-US relations. In 1989, China was subjected to economic sanctions by the international community. President Bush made a concerted effort to restore normal relations with China’s top management in a very short period of time.

Bush’s special article, “Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the United States and China,” positively affirms the achievements of China’s development: “The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States is a very memorable landmark historical event, which is a major turning point for both countries.” He also recalled the feeling of participating in the Beijing Olympics: “Because I participated in the Beijing Olympics, I visited China again. This is the 20th visit to China since I left the White House. China has made tremendous progress in various fields including politics, economy and society. I feel shocked.

Brzezinski’s contribution to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States
Brzezinski was a national security adviser to former US President Jimmy Carter and was regarded as one of the most influential predecessors of the US diplomatic community. Brzezinski personally participated in the decision-making process of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China. In May 1978, Brzezinski visited China for the first time. As the national security adviser of the then US President Carter, he met Deng Xiaoping in the Great Hall of the People and talked about how to realize the normalization of Sino-US relations for more than two hours.
In 1981, at the invitation of Deng Xiaoping, Brzezinski came to China with his family. And with the family to re-take the Long March Road – Dadu River section.

Brzezinski has a personal experience of the sensitivity and difficulty of the Taiwan issue. In early 2012, he wrote in the Foreign Affairs magazine that the United States should not sell arms to Taiwan indefinitely, and that Taiwan could not avoid establishing more formal relations with mainland China indefinitely. These statements caused strong repercussions on both sides of the strait.

In June 2016, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Brzezinski in Washington during his visit to the United States. Wang Yi appreciated Brzezinski’s positive contribution to promoting the development of Sino-US relations and said that China is willing to work with the US. Build a new type of big power relationship that wins cooperation and wins.
